Enjoy getting to know us a little more personally!
Kathy Yusiewicz ~
Owner, Color Consultant, Home Staging Expert, Designer, Faux Finish Artist
After spending many years providing color advice and faux finish services in the metropolitan New York area, I moved to Chapel Hill in 1999 and started my own business, Faux Home. The company has grown over the years through the addition of other artists and designers who share my vision, to provide the absolute best service to our clients and give them a unique look which reflects their personal taste. Combining rustic, mid-century, and modern elements of style works when it is planned and cohesive. I often combine styles to incorporate things that you love!
I enjoy the creative process and want you to enjoy the journey with me. I have always been told I have “an eye” for color and seeing the nuances in each one. Whether a restful retreat or a colorfully creative space, I strive to incorporate a color and design plan that makes you feel good each and every time you enter your home or office. I am not happy until you are!
In addition to my artistic side, I have a BA in mathematics, which I credit for being meticulous with my painting and designs. I love traveling, anything art related, live performances, volunteering in the community and spending time with my husband, three children and our 2 tuxedo cats.

I have a passion for all aspects of design, with an emphasis on personalizing your home with items that reflect your passions. I aspire your space to be fresh, welcoming and comfortable ~ what I hope one would say upon entering my home ~ whether your style is Mid-Century Modern, Traditional or Eclectic. Comfort while being functional, is key.
My idea of fun is DIY projects, transforming thrift store finds into treasures. I enjoy gardening, flower arranging and composing seasonal tablescapes. Family time with my husband and 2 children also includes cuddling with 2 Golden Retrievers ~ yes they are allowed on the furniture!
Originally from California, I come to Chapel Hill with 15 years of professional design experience. After raising two daughters and years of decorating for friends and family, I turned my passion into a business.
Being blessed with 6 lively grandchildren and cohabitating with 3 adorable furry friends I understand the challenge presented when trying to incorporate design, comfort and lifestyle in to a home.
Blending the uniqueness of each client with sensible design, without compromising comfort, is always my goal. I want my clients to feel home as a safe haven from the daily grind of everyday living. From a cozy reading nook with a comfy chair to a luxurious master retreat, no space should be overlooked.
Ultimately life is all about sharing a warm, inviting environment with our loved ones. The two legged kind and well as the four legged kind! A house is not truly a home, until it is molded to fit the needs and comforts of the entire family.

Faux Finish Artist
I have been painting for as long as I can remember. Not only in art classes in school, but painting houses and apartments as a summer job. I’ve painted the interior and sometimes the exterior of every house I have lived in. I began experimenting with different faux painting techniques about 15 years ago. In addition to my many years of painting experience, I have a degree in engineering which can be an asset in the planning and execution of our work.
Originally from Syracuse, New York, I moved with my family to Mebane in 2006 and was thrilled to be able to work with my sister, Kathy. We often visited her family over the years and I always admired her artistic talents. My husband is a graphic artist and has a passion for home design which has rubbed off on me. We often watch DIY and HGTV, or browse through magazines, catalogs, and the internet looking for new ideas. I prefer to reuse and recycle and am not afraid to try something new! I also substitute teach when I am not painting. I love to read, crochet, swim, volunteer, and spend time with my husband and two children.
